July is National Blueberry Month!

Yes, you read that right. According to the internet and the North American Blueberry Council, (who knew?) July is the official month of the blueberry, and July 11th is Blueberry Muffin Day. Apparently, the U.S. Department of Agriculture named July National Blueberry Month all the way back in 2003. Blueberries are grown in 35 states in the U.S., making up 95% of the world's blueberry crop! With July being the peak season, it's the perfect time to celebrate the nutritious and delicious berry. It's about time this national holiday is given the recognition it deserves. The auspicious little berry has made it big, so this DIY post is dedicated to helping one and all celebrate! Since tomorrow is National Blueberry Muffin Day, we have a DIY blueberry muffins, as well as blueberry butter and a blueberry smoothie.

Blueberry Muffins

This recipe comes from The New York Times and is a little more sophisticated than your average blueberry muffin recipe. These muffins stand apart from the rest because of an extra step that makes all the difference. Along with a little extra sugar and butter (never hurt anyone, right?), they suggest you mash half of the blueberries before mixing them in with the rest of the ingredients. This ensures that the blueberries won't just fall to the bottom of the muffins and helps keep the muffins moist. Blueberry Butter

What better to go with blueberry muffins that blueberry butter? It's a bit extra, I know, but if you're going to do something, why not go all the way? This bright purple spread is so pretty and could not be easier to make. All you have to do is blend fresh blueberries and then mix the puree into softened butter. Blueberry Smoothie

Finally, a blueberry smoothie to enjoy for a light breakfast or refreshing snack. This recipe only requires a few ingredients and takes less that 15 minutes to make. All you need is fresh or frozen blueberries (frozen for a thicker consistency), yogurt, milk, honey, and ice! Once everything is blended together, the smoothie is ready to enjoy!
