We hope you all had a wonderful 4th of July weekend! It's always hard to go back to work or classes after a holiday, but don't worry! Champaign-Urbana has some awesome events to keep you motivated. There's much to look forward to, so let's get started with This Week in Town!
Tuesday, July 9th
This Tuesday, travel under the sea at the Virginia Theatre to see the 1989, Disney classic. The Little Mermaid will be playing on the big screen at 6:30 pm on Tuesday. (If you miss it, they will have a second showing on Thursday at the same time.) There's no better way to see a childhood favorite that in the theaters again! For more info, click here!
Thursday, July 11th
Krannert Center for Performing Arts will be having their Krannert Uncorked night on Thursday. This is an evening to enjoy Broadway songs and some wine samplings. Performers include "Ranae Wilson, Steve Wachala, Colleen Bruton, Ashley Giberson, Isiah Asplund, Mallory Sellers, and David French accompanied by Tommy Howie (piano)." Friday, July 12th
Common Ground Food Co-op is hosting their First Friday: Chill & Grill! For only $5, you get a delicious meal and the chance to enjoy live, local music. This Friday, Ryan Groff from the band Elsinore, known for "Get Your Head Right" and (my personal favorite) "Chemicals," will be playing. While you listen, enjoy either a pork, beef, or vegetarian hot dog with potato salad and macaroni and black bean salad for sides. For more info, click here!
Sunday, July 13th
Urbana Boulders, Imbibe Urbana, Riggs Beer Company, Neutral Cycle, and the Champaign County Disk Club are hosting a TRYathlon from 3 to 10 pm this Saturday. This isn't your typical triathlon where participants swim, cycle, and run. Here's what there event entails- "our Urbana Tryathlon route starts at Urbana Boulders for registration, waiver signing, bike attainment, and camaraderie with Neutral Cycle. Once you're signed up and have your scorecards, Tryathletes will enjoy all that Urbana Boulders has to offer for all levels indoor climbing. After climbing, Tryathletes will follow their pack leaders and ride through to Lohmann Park. At Lohmann, play a couple of holes of Disc Golf with the Champaign County Disc Golf Club. Once we've got the competitive juices flowing, we ride to Riggs Beer Company. At Riggs, be ready to keg toss and celebrate Urbana with your friends, family and complimentary Tryathlon pint glass. Awards ceremony at 8:30pm and celebrations continue until 10pm." For tickets and more information, follow the link! The much anticipated Streetfest is here! Hosted by Champaign Park District, this event is free for all and showcases some of the awesome musical talent from CU. Enjoy listening to the live music for FREE while enjoy the diverse food and drink options of Downtown. Streetfest runs from 7 to 11:59 pm downtown Champaign.
